Activists from Spain: Drugs have turned out into the ordinary entertainment

14.11.2012

Recently, the presentation of Queen Sofia awards for the drug prevention activity, annually held by the Spanish Red Cross, took place in Spain.

"Around 200,000 annually die as a result of the drug abuse. In this case it’s really sad that society perceive drugs as an ordinary entertainment,” Francisco Babin, the member of the Spanish National Project on Drugs commented on the situation with drug addiction in Europe and worldwide at the event.

The report with the statistics, according to which Spain is a leader among other European countries on the level of cannabis and cocaine abuse, was presented.

"We need to change the policy of" myopia "in relation to the fight against drugs. Unfortunately, there are many social organizations involved in the anti-drug programs, which have had to be closed due to the absence of the help from the state,” it was said in the report. “The addict should be considered as a sick person and not as a criminal.”
